Welcome: The History of Randolph House Inc.

Updated: Oct 13

Randolph House Inc. (RHI) was established on April 21, 2021, in Atlanta, Georgia, by founder Skyyler Randolph.

“When I was younger, all the neighborhood kids wanted to come to my house,” Randolph recalls. “It was always full on the weekends—and most days—because my mother was a caregiver for children and adults with disabilities. I named my organization Randolph House Inc. because I wanted to create another safe and welcoming space for children and families to receive support, regardless of their unique needs.”

The organization’s motto, “Whose House? Our House!”, reflects its belief that everyone regardless of role, background, or ability, is part of the same team.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Randolph House Inc. supported numerous families by providing homeschool assistance, affordable tutoring, field trips, books, parent workshops, community fundraisers, and virtual learning support. In 2022, the Board of Directors made the decision to relocate Randolph House Inc. back to its roots in North Carolina, where Skyyler Randolph’s vision first began.

Bolivia, North Carolina, known as the “significant crossroad” between Wilmington, North Carolina and South Carolina, is home to a small family farm where Randolph was born and raised. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she pursued a career in education, specializing in special education.

“I saw the great work my mother did, and it inspired me,” Randolph explains. “Through those observations, my own professional experiences as an educator, and recognizing the literacy deficits among students in grades 1st–8th, the mission of Randolph House Inc. became clear.”

RHI envisions a world where every child, regardless of disability, socioeconomic status, or language barrier; has access to equitable education, and where families are empowered to advocate effectively for their children’s needs.

In rural areas such as Bolivia, where educational resources are often limited or unavailable, many parents desire to advocate for their children but do not know where to start. Randolph House bridges this gap through initiatives such as the S.T.A.R.T. (Spend Time Talking and Reading Together) Program and the “IEP & Me” Parent Workshop, which provide families with the tools and confidence to support their child’s educational journey.

Randolph House continues to honor its roots and commitment to community by offering a variety of educational and enrichment opportunities, including S.T.E.A.M. activities, American Sign Language (ASL) classes, tutoring in reading and math, social-emotional learning (SEL) programs, individualized IEP support and caregiver support.

Additionally, Randolph House gives back through the HeartWork Scholarship, established In Loving Memory of Christie Newman, Skyyler Randolph’s mother. Each year, three scholarships are awarded: one to a caregiver of an individual with special needs, one to a special education teacher, and one to a student with a learning disability attending a two- or four-year institution.

Research shows that illiteracy is related to poverty, employment and lack of appropriate healthcare. If a child struggles to read & write and never receives interventions to help improve those skills, they become adults with the same reading & writing difficulties. RHI has partnered with families, schools and the community in efforts to eliminate illiteracy and communication access problems for minority families in underserved areas. RHI believes children deserve a safe and solid foundation to ensure a safe and solid future.
