Spring break at Randolph House Inc. was anything but ordinary this year, it was a full-on STEAM adventure filled with curiosity, creativity, and a few exciting surprises along the way.
Our students dove headfirst into the world of science by exploring physical reactions in a hands-on, engaging way. From mixing everyday materials to observing bubbling, fizzing transformations, they learned how different substances interact, and why those reactions happen. The excitement in the room grew with every experiment, especially when things didn’t go exactly as expected (which, as it turns out, is often the best way to learn).
Of course, no STEAM program would be complete without a little engineering. Students tapped into their creativity by designing and building unique structures using LEGO bricks. From towering creations to imaginative designs, each build reflected problem-solving, teamwork, and a lot of determination. Some structures stood tall, others…well, let’s just say they provided great lessons in balance and design.
And then there was the slime.
What started as a simple experiment quickly turned into one of the most talked-about moments of the week. Students learned to blow up slime with a straw, the slime expanded rapidly and, yes… it exploded (in the safest, messiest, most hilarious way possible). Laughter filled the room, and it became an unforgettable lesson in what happens when reactions go big.
Beyond the fun, our STEAM spring break program gave students the chance to explore, question, and create in an environment that encouraged curiosity and confidence. They didn’t just learn about science, technology, engineering, arts, and math—they experienced it.
We’re proud to provide opportunities like this that spark imagination and make learning come alive. And if you ask our students, they’ll tell you: sometimes the best lessons are the ones that get a little messy.
